OPTICAL ZOOM
-
A process that uses a series of lenses to magnify an image so that it appears larger and takes up a larger portion of the sensor or film. See also DIGITAL ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM LENS.
-
OPTICAL VIEWFINDER
-
A non-electronic, optical device used to view the image that is being shot. Usually a rectangular or circular glass or plastic window on the back of a camera. Optical viewfinders on compact cameras do not show exactly what is being shot because they are independent of the lens. The optical viewfinders on SLR cameras show exactly what is being shot because they are aimed through the lens. See also LCD VIEWFINDER, VIEWFINDER and PARALLAX.
-
OVEREXPOSURE
-
Occurs when the sensor or film receives too much light because the aperture is too wide and/or the shutter time is too long. The resulting picture is too bright and lacks detail.
